From the time I was a little girl dancing around our living room, movement has been a part of my life. When I wasn’t dancing, I was running or fencing or hiking or playing tennis or just not sitting still...
I have explored many different types of movement, studied dance and choreography and have taught others to move. It was during my dance training in college that I was first introduced to Pilates. Over the years, I have continued to practice some of the exercises I learned there as part of my regular workouts.
Early in my work life, I gravitated toward a job in the Arts as an administrator which led me into a rewarding career in marketing and development in the non-profit sector that lasted for decades. But I always kept dancing and running and moving.
I also became curious and began to learn about the Mind-Body connection with yoga and mindfulness, and alternative medicine and energy healing practices. I pursued training to become a Reiki healer and the a holistic Life Coach. In my 40s, I unfortunately was poisoned by a building and, as a result, learned alot about the toxic environment we have created and how to live cleaner, greener and how to use food, nutrition and alternative therapies to heal.
Several years ago, I injured myself in a yoga class and struggled to fully recover. A friend recommended I try a physical therapist she knew who had also been a dancer and utilized Pilates in her work.
Things clicked. I finally started to recover and was reminded why dancers depended on all the many benefits of Pilates to help them avoid injuries and keep them in dancing.
Starting a regular Pilates practice reminded me of how happy I had been in the world of movement, and encouraging others to move and enjoy what their bodies can do. I felt a nudge to follow that bliss so took a leap of faith and traded in my suits for tights and sports bras as I embarked on a new career.
